UPDATE – 1st October 2020
We would like to inform you that the ’’Maritime Renaissance’’ conference is cancelled.
Due to the corona virus crisis the majority of foreign lecturers and keynote speakers had to cancel their physical attendance and consequently the Conference lost a great deal of its international dimension.
As a result of this and the continuing danger it still poses to public health and safety, together with the increased imposition of travel restrictions, we could not maintain the quality we had hoped for. This was a very difficult decision, but, after consulting with the participants, we believe that it is the most responsible one.
We were very optimistic, hoping that the situation with COVID-19 will be much better in November, trying our best to organize the conference and to bring our professional and scientific community together one more time.
The Conference is postponed for the year 2022 given that the city of Zadar in 2021 will be hosting the 16th International Symposium on Boat and Ship Archaeology – ISSBSA 16, from 26th September to 1st October 2021. It is organized as a collaborative effort of the University of Zadar, ICUA Zadar, the Archaeological Museum Zadar and the Museum of Ancient Glass.
We have decided to keep the Conference name to ensure the minimal visual intrusion and retain the virtual recognition of the event. For that reason the ’’Maritime Renaissance’’ website will be maintained to share updates. The Conference themes will be kept and the lecturers who have submitted their abstracts will be given the opportunity to change their topic if they wish. ICUA Zadar will announce a Call for papers in 2021 for new interested participants.
We truly appreciate your patience and understanding in this extraordinary situation and hope to see you in Zadar in 2022.
UPDATE – 28th August 2020
We would like to thank all of the authors who submitted their papers and posters for the international conference ‘’Maritime Renaissance – Adriatic Trade Routes in Late Medieval and Post Medieval Period’’.
Here you can find a list of accepted papers and posters.
Congratulations to the authors!
We look forward to welcoming you at the ‘’Maritime Renaissance ‘’ conference in November in Zadar!
IMPORTANT UPDATE – 10th July 2020
We are happy to inform you that the conference will proceed as planned and the deadline for paper submission has been extended to 31 July 2020.
The notification of acceptance will be shifted by the end of August 2020.
We hope the situation will return back to normal, however we are aware that the situation is still evolving, and we will consider putting new actions in place if necessary, in the following months.
Please feel free to contact us at dkurtov@icua.hr for any further questions.
Like many conferences planned for 2020, we have been assessing the way that research and travel may be impacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The organizers of ’’Maritime Renaissance – Adriatic Trade Routes in Late Medieval and Post Medieval Period’’ will continue to closely monitor the situation and will keep you informed about developments in Croatia.
At present, the conference will proceed as planned. Given that the dates are in early November, we hope that there will be enough time for life to begin to return to normal. If this is not the case by mid-summer, then we will start putting the contingency plans into action.
The Call for papers is still opened and if you are interested in contributing, please have a look at our web page (https://www.maritime-renaissance-2020.icua.hr/submission-details-for-papers/ ) and submit your abstract via email by 10th July 2020.
We will be sharing updates on our page here, as well as through direct emails to speakers and participants. We hope to see you in Zadar.
